Red Temptation

Submitted by Admin on Friday, 8 May 20094 Comments

red_cover2My name is Sonya. Most people just call me Red. Although Ive been called claws a time or two also lol. I currently reside in Knoxville TN. I was born in Columbia SC in the Fort Jackson Army base.

I started growing my nails long at 16. This is when I got my 1st set on acrylic tips put on for my boyfriends prom. Everyone in school & at work loved them, so from there it continued. So since I’ll be 38 in October, Ive grown them for 22 years. Had I of not cut them down repeatedly thru out the years, who knows how long they’d be today.

The specific reason for the long nails.. lets be honest.. its for the attention!! LOL.. And at this point I cant function w/short nails. My nails, like my wild hair are a part of me & my personality.

They are currently between 5 & 5 1/2 inches.
I’ll grow them for as long as I can tolerate them & still be able to work. I type all day at my job.. yes I said type..So far they dont slow me down :-)

I use the Sally Hanson hard as nails clear polish.. they claim to have diamond chips in it, to harden the nails, but who knows if thats true or not. But w/that an acrylic overlay every two weeks, they do stay hard.

Favorite color is this beautiful iridescent color from OPI. Im not sure of the name, but it goes on as a really dark purplish blue, depending on the light, you can see purple, blue, green & black in it.

There’s always an interesting comment from men, women & children. Men will ask me if I’ll scratch their backs while their wife/girlfriend is standing right there… Ummm yeah, no lol.. Im also stopped where ever I go, or may be at, and asked to see my nails. Wither Im in the store, in the car at a traffic light, work.. it doesnt matter & I dont mind. I think the craziest thing is that people assume that because of their length I cant do certain things. I get asked all the time how Im able to wash my hair, if I drive, how can I wash dishes, and of course the more personal question “how can you..” We’ll just leave it at that lol. I tell them I can do anything I choose to do, wither I have long nails or not. I type all day at work & do about 65-70 wmp. That really freaks them out, that I can type, but much less type that fast. You should see me text! I text more than I talk on the phone. And I text faster then most people w/short or long nails! This still amazes my friends & people that know me. And of course theres the people that think I cant shoot pool.. Ummm ok, all I can say is Rack ‘em up!

    I’m jealous.
Mine were 3″ when I had to remove the acrylic and start over. I’m surprised you got so far without having to do that! Kudos!

Gorgeous nails! Question: I too live in Knoxville, and will be visiting my best friend in Columbia, SC this weekend. He actually works at Ft Jackson. He has been in SC for almost a year now, and has not had shrimp & grits! Any suggestions on a great restaurant to take him?
