We spoke with a new aspiring Nail Art that caught out attention,  she’s from Florida and despite the fact she launched her business just 2 years ago, her designs are amazing.; but lets see what the expect told us.

How long have you been into Nail Tech business?

I’ve been licensed since october of 08 seriously!!!!

Wow, you’re defo a natural, less tha a year and you’re doing this kind of nailart quite impressive; where do you get inspiration? do you draw your designs before applying them?

No one believes me when i tell them i never touched acrylic befor july of 08 tv shows, fashion, cooking, the sky…lol

I guess they don’t call it nail ART for nothing, you really can get inspired out of everything

Everything i do comes after my client picks her polish i have no art background it really is just a GOD given talent

Speaking of polishes, what would be the HOT polish for this winter?

OPI and orly my faves and all that fills my polish racks lol

What does it take for someone to become a nail artist? What does it take to get in the industry?

Passion!

Looking back, becoming a nail artist is it what you expected in the first place?

I think it was always in me I just kept fighting it trying to be a realist instead of a dreamer but little did I know

Do you have long nails yourself?

No unfortunatly i have short acrylic nails i am a nail bitter lol

3.How long are you nails in a daily basis?
Usually I keep them around size 3, that’s approximately 1 inch long, and I can do every task with them. It’s a matter of habit really, once you get used to them, you can’t do anything with short nails.
4.Is there something you can’t do?
Well, I do have hard times putting small piercings on my ears, but that’s fine…I either way I don’t  necessary  need them…my nails get all the attention.
5.What size do you consider “long”?
I consider “long” anything above size 3, that’s approximately one and a half inch in the forms of Tammy Taylor.
6.The longest acrylics you ever applied?
It was an Nail art conference, I was wearing  size 7 and then since there isn’t any longer size I applied an extension up to size 9, which is approximately longer than the length of my actual middle finger. I only kept them for 5 days as it was kind of hard to do my work to tell you the truth.
7.Tell me more about your clients; I really want to know the trends in Greece. Here in U.K. Stiletto nails are quite popular this period. They have a momentum!
Most of my clients are rather reserved. They’ll go for ¾ of an inch or they might go for one inch, but in the end it’s too long for them and they always come back to reduce the length.
8.From where do you take inspiration for your designs?
Most of the designs are mine. Sometimes if I run out of ideas I will look around see something I really like and I’ll think of how I can change it according to my likeness.
9.I noticed you use French manicure a lot….
Almost to all my designs I use French manicure as a base and from there I create my designs, flowers, feathers, skulls…you name it!
10.And the tips, what’s the trend, square or pointy?
I’m afraid none of them, in Greece the oval is the most popular, and they particularly like the combination of oval nails with French or American Manicure.
11.What do you reckon will be this winter’s trend?
I think acrylic colours with lots of glitter are coming back, I would like to see a client to try French manicure with black base and intense glitterish colours where the line of the French manicure is in a decent length. Don’t you agree that there must be a proper length in order for a woman to look special?

Almost 8 years now, since 2002

2.What do you think was the most challenging part when you launched your own company?

The fact that I had to work with all kind of people, maintain focus while on the same time you have to keep all your clients happy.

3. What’s yor current length size and the typical length of your client.

My nails are around 3 inches long and I would say my clients have an average 1inch length.

4. Would you grow your nails longer?

I know I can’t live without my nails so most likely, yes!

5. What advice would you give to a new nail artist?

Don’t give up! Just because it’s hard or difficult in the begining doesn’t mean you have to quit trying; working 7 days a week it’s part of my life.

We had a lovely chat with Hattie, an aspiring nail artist where she gave us some useful tips about the upcoming trends. Hattie is one person with “Can Do Attitude” so when we expressed interest about her wonderful work and suggested to have a featured article in the Nail Techs section she was immediately positive about it and willing to get things going. Let’s speak about trends. What kind of nails are “hot” this period, oval, stiletto nails, duck nails?  I see that stiletto nails are totally hot this season. Which I very much agree. Nothing shows style more than those hot beauties.

Do you think toenails must match the fingernails color-wise?  Yes, guilty. I am a true believer that once you step out the door,  your nails and toe nails should match accordingly.

So how did you decided to get involved with nail-art? Nail art is my passion, and I love the idea that someone is wearing my art on the tips of their fingers. When getting my nails done, I always prided in the nail art that was on my nails. I was intimidated at first, but broke through the ice in nail school and never looked back. I won first place in our school competition for “fantasy” nail art two weeks in.

What are the difficulties when a nail artist or a manicurist launch her own business? It’s hard to start out with new clientelle. They have to gain their trust in you. If your new, they usually hesitate over the fact that you may not know what you are doing. I never thought that I would use it as a business, just a way to enter the many competitions the nail industry holds. Always remember you can never learn too much.

Your nutshell philosophy… Keep a open mind and through it you will prosper.

If I wasn’t a manicurist I’d be… Nevada Historian. I am a full time student, whatever piques my interest that month, I want to be. I’m still young and the opportunities are limitless. Though manicuring has got to be one of my funnest occupations since.

A phrase I use all the time… “You choose the color and I will create the art…..”

The model in the picture was Sam, the actual owner of kinkynails and Nails4males and on top of that the person behind the idea. I’m always intrigued form people who try something different, something innovative and out of the box. One of these persons is Sam, a starter, daring innovative woman that brought something different in the Nail industry and most importantly it’s for males and females. Now that’s a recipe that can’t go wrong! Moving forward Ann made an exclusive article with Sam with some behind the scenes news and news of what’s coming next from Sam. As an outsider looking at your business, it’s a brilliant idea and there was an obvious need, for nails for the male audience. Did you realize that when you started?

It was a transvestite who gave me the whole idea in the first place! I had been working as a nail technician for a few years and attended a friends graduation party in London. I met a TV who was admiring my nails but her thumbs were very wide and nothing was available at the time that could be adhered to the full nail. I had the idea of designing a wide fit nail, and whilst doing my reseach, I thought, why not make them really long too!

Sam, you started the kinkynails.co.uk few years back, which is a massive success already. I was also told that due to this success customers brought down the server once due to crazy traffic. What drove you start a second site, the Nails4males.co.uk ?

It was actually nails4males that came first! After receiving many enquiries, I realised that although most of my customers were men, lots of them were buying the nails for their girlfriends/ partners to wear.I moved more into the fetish market and understood that some people felt uncomfortable purchasing from a ‘transgender’ based site. It was then that kinkynails.com was born!
